Sacred Voyage on the Heterongenous Edge
Before I dive into my first real blog let me just say that my family and I are extremely excited about coming to Montreal to minister among you and plant churches. I so look forward to being your pastor. It is an honor, and a sacred trust that you place in my hands. I covenant to do my best to be the leader God has called me to be, and I ask you all to do the same. This will be a sacred voyage we’ll go on together.
I expect great things. I had a fantastic time meeting so many of you when I visited you in February. Your congregation has such an amazing diversity of backgrounds, ethnicities and experiences that gives it what I would call a “heterogeneous edge.”
That is, there is certainly no shortage of diverse opinions, ideas, backgrounds, church practices and other angles. I believe that brings a healthy tension, or “heterogenous edge” to church life and practice that surely helps you avoid a blasé church “game.” I expect that this constant iron sharpening iron brings a nice climate of spiritual challenge, and a good sort of tension. I look forward to adding to the tension! No, seriously, it can be a challenge being from different backgrounds, and sometimes the Adversary uses these things to tear people apart, using the tension to bring the other type of tension - strife. But what I see at Impact is an incredible testimony to the world that despite your differences, you are a dynamic spiritual community with one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all, through whom you are carrying out His work in unity. Cool. What is it that God wants will do through us for His glory in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and even the world? We shall see! See you sometime soon unless the Lord comes first…
